Project Lazarus: Building the Largest Domestic Battery Materials Plant in North America

As the demand for lithium-ion batteries skyrockets, so does America’s need for a secure, domestic source of critical materials. That’s why American Li-ion is launching Project Lazarus—a bold new initiative that will establish the largest battery materials production facility in North America.

Located in McAlester, Oklahoma, Project Lazarus will span 150,000 square feet and feature the capacity to process 60,000 metric tons of material annually. This state-of-the-art facility will transform black mass into high-purity cathode and anode materials, enabling U.S. manufacturers to produce batteries using resources refined entirely on American soil.

But the impact of Project Lazarus goes far beyond the facility walls. At full capacity, it’s expected to generate $600 million in annual revenue and create 250–300 high-quality American jobs, from engineers and chemists to executive leadership and operations staff. By keeping critical battery materials in American hands, Project Lazarus reduces foreign dependence, shortens supply chains, and drives economic growth across the region.

Project Lazarus will also serve as a logistics hub for our Atoka facility, streamlining shipping and operations across Oklahoma. This expansion reinforces American Li-ion’s mission: to put America first in the race to control the future of battery materials.
